Purpose & Details

Why and how?

THE CREATOR OF WIRES  EXPLORED 9 RIVERS DURING A YEAR

They realized a photo report about the relation ship between human beings and rivers worldwide. This was the "Grand Detour" project (click on the logo to learn more about it).

They met and interviewed more than 150 stakeholders working on rivers ecosystems, who told them about their daily challenges and their local  solutions.

UP

TWO MAIN FINDINGS
HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED

1 - the worldwide challenges related to rivers are more and more complex. To combine the various usages (economy, tourism, transport, hydro-power, etc.) with the rivers as living bodies is more and more difficult.

2 - There is an increasing loss of the human-river relationship.

CONSIDERING THOSE FINDINGS,

a growing number of stakeholders are getting on with the reconciliation between the rivers as living bodies and their economic functions. They are also aiming to rethink the human-river relationship so that the inhabitants regain control of their rivers. These stakeholders contribute to the emergence of a new “river”, for which the paradigm would not be economical only but also social, cultural and ecological.

STAKEHOLDERS' ACTION

aim to preserve and promote the sustainable management of the natural resources. They can be systematized in four categories:

Raise public awareness

Preserve and enhance
the value of the cultural, historical and natural heritage embodied by rivers

Empower local communities and imply them in sustainable and ecological management

Rearrange urbanism and country planning to give room to rivers and improve the relationship between people and rivers

THE PROBLEM IS

that stakeholders worldwide are not connected, are struggling to find and implement solutions despite the globalization of rivers issues.

THIS IS THE REASON WHY

WIRES has been created.

IT IS EASY

You are an expert-citizen and you want to share your knowledge to help others and learn from them.

But it is difficult to find partners right?

Wrong.

Two steps only.

STEP 1 JOIN

STEP 2 EXPLORE the NETWORK

WIRES USES A NETWORKING SOLUTION CALLED "WHALLER"

With Whaller, we can create a private social network with simplicity, protection and control.

You can learn more by clicking on the links below:

WHALLER IN ENGLISH

WHALLER IN SPANISH

WHALLER IN FRENCH

AFTER JOINING ON WIRES WEBSITE, you will be directed to WIRES NETWORK on Whaller. There, you will have access to some spheres of discussion in relation with the information you gave while joining.

THE INTERFACE IS SIMPLE,

Each sphere is related to a specific subject of discussion. The blue spheres are related to rivers, the yellow ones are about specific issues.

ONCE YOU ARE IN,

you can exchange with other "expert-citizen" and discover other practices that might help you with your daily challenges.

WIRES IS FREE
BUT HAS SOME RULES

WIRES aims to put citizen working on rivers issues in touch in order to promote sustainable development and ecosystems preservation.

Nature provides essential service and we want to sustain it.

Therefore, WIRES is not the place if your goal is to sell goods or services. WIRES is an open forum and is free.

THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING

once WIRES will be online, other services will be added.
